Using Tennis to Build Brighter Futures

First Serve NoCo, formerly NJTL of Fort Collins, is a youth development nonprofit serving children and families across Northern Colorado.

Our roots come from the National Junior Tennis and Learning movement, inspired by Arthur Ashe’s belief that tennis could build character, education, and opportunity. Today, we carry that mission forward in Fort Collins, Loveland, and surrounding communities.

We use tennis as the first serve. Then we build from there.

Through free, low-cost tennis, mentorship, leadership lessons, and bilingual English/Spanish education, we help kids become healthier, more confident, and more connected to their community.

Our Mission

To help Northern Colorado youth build confidence, health, leadership, and belonging through tennis, mentorship, and bilingual education.

Our Vision

A Northern Colorado where every child has access to safe places to play, trusted adults, healthy activity, and opportunities to grow, no matter their family income, background, or first language.

Mai-Ly Tran was named the fourth head coach in Colorado State University program history on July 13, 2021. She is the second woman to guide the program, following Lois Nieder, who coached the Rams the first 14 seasons of play, beginning in 1975-76. This will be Tran’s second head-coaching stint.

Her first three seasons came with double-digit dual victories and two of the program’s three appearances in the Mountain West semifinals. The 2023-24 featured Radka Buzkova becoming the first player in program history to be named All-Mountain West in both singles in doubles in three successive seasons. The team reached the conference tournament semifinals for the second time under Tran.
